Chicago AIDS Service Organizations
The net proceeds of the pledges for the AIDS Ride benefit the following
six AIDS charities:
AIDSCARE
-
Provides housing and compassionate care to homeless men and
women living with AIDS;

Primarily serves Chicago-area persons with advanced AIDS
who have exhausted their resources;

Basic services: housing, food, and access to full medical,
counseling, education, and social services;

On-site Community Wellness Center provides complimentary
therapies, exercise, and meals 5 days a week to persons in the community
living with HIV/AIDS;

Serves as lead agency for AIDS Volunteer Education Consortium
in training and education.
Canticle Place
-
Serves persons living in DuPage County who are disabled by
AIDS;
-
Operated by the Wheaton Franciscans on their campus;
-
Provides 12 apartments, the first and only DuPage County
housing facility for persons with AIDS;
-
Facilitates link between resident and other programs and
support services in DuPage County;
-
Provides complimentary therapies for residents and people
living with AIDS in the surrounding area.
Chicago House
-
First agency in Chicago to respond to the supportive housing
needs of persons with AIDS;
-
Offers the city's most comprehensive housing program;
-
Operates the state's first housing program for families with
dependent children;
-
Provides substance abuse/recovery support services, family
and individual counseling, support groups and case management, and volunteer
services;
-
Since 1985, more than 900 men, women, and children have called
the Chicago House.
Community Response
-
Located in Oak Park to provide supportive service to HIV+
residents of the west side;
-
Direct services include case management, residential, nutrition,
and transportation services;

Cooperative work with other service agencies on advocacy
and directional activities;

Helps enable persons affected by HIV to live quality lives
in their own homes and communities.
Howard Brown Health Center
-
Recognized as the leading private provider of HIV/AIDS services
and the largest gay, lesbian, and bisexual health center in the Midwest;

Conducts Employment Options Program, the nation's only clinically-based,
back-to-work program for people with HIV/AIDS;
-
Participates in global research studies, including the largest
HIV/AIDS study in history and the world's first, large-scale HIV vaccine
trial;
-
Provides comprehensive medical care to clients regardless
of ability to pay through a sliding-scale fee program.
Sinai Family Health Centers
-
Runs 21 community health centers on Chicago south, southwest,
west, and near north sides;
-
Primarily serves the African American and Latino communities;
-
170,000 medical visits annually, including primary care for
persons with HIV/AIDS;
-
Provides HIV education and prevention to women of childbearing
age, African American gay/bisexual men, African American sexually active
men and active injection drug users.
